How can I change video canvas size without a preset?

How to set a custom video size

    Start with your original video

    Upload an MP4, MOV or WebM, or play one of the landscape and portrait examples. The canvas starts with extra room around the full source; there is no black-border detection step.

    Drag the edges or type dimensions

    Pull an orange edge to add room on that side, or move a corner to change width and height together. Enter pixel dimensions and apply them when you need a precise canvas size. No aspect-ratio preset is required.

    Review and save your canvas

    Play the clip to check the composition. Switch to Original for comparison and use Preview zoom for a closer look. Save a canvas draft to reopen it in My videos; the checkerboard remains a layout preview until AI export is available.

Change video canvas dimensions beyond standard ratios

A website banner, presentation layout or custom embed may need dimensions that do not match a social preset. This custom video canvas lets you plan that space by width and height. It adds room around the existing picture instead of stretching the subject to fill a different shape.

Expand one edge or add space around the whole video

Drag the left, right, top or bottom edge independently. That makes it possible to leave more room beside a product, above a person or around a tightly framed scene. The green outline marks the original frame; the orange outline defines the intended output canvas.

Custom canvas size is different from file size

Width and height describe the canvas in pixels. Megabytes describe the encoded file. Increasing canvas size does not compress the file or add detail to the source. Use this workspace to add canvas space around the complete picture.

Use presets when the destination has a fixed aspect ratio

If you already need 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5, a ratio preset can be quicker. Use the custom canvas when you want independent control over each edge. Both workflows let you review a composition before deciding how the added space should be filled.

Can I set a custom video width and height?

Yes, for the layout preview. Enter whole-pixel values in Width and Height, then select Apply dimensions. The canvas must contain the full source and stays within the preview's size bounds. Save the dimensions with your composition to return to the same layout.

Can I drag the output frame without choosing a template?

Yes. Drag any orange edge or corner. Width and height are independent, so you do not have to choose 16:9, 9:16 or another preset. You can also focus a handle and use arrow keys, with Shift for larger steps.

Will changing the canvas size crop or stretch my video?

This preview keeps the complete source at its original proportions. The output boundary cannot move inside the source. It adds surrounding space; it does not crop content or stretch the subject.

Can I make the output smaller than the original video?

This tool previews canvas expansion, so its minimum width and height are the source dimensions. Use a conventional video resizer to downscale a clip. The Preview zoom slider only changes how large the workspace appears on your screen.

Do I need to detect black bars before resizing?

No. You can drag the canvas as soon as the video is loaded. If your file already contains black borders that should be excluded, use Remove Black Bars to identify the active picture first.

How much does custom AI resizing cost?

Custom AI resizing is 25 credits per source second at 720p, rounded up to the next whole second. A 5-second clip is 125 credits. The editor shows the estimate beside your saved layout; previewing and saving are free.
